The American Vascular Association (AVA), the foundation of the Society for Vascular Surgery, seeks to reduce death and disability related to vascular disease through research and education (see the 2009 Annual Report for details).

AVA Initiatives

• The Lifeline Awards support professional development programs in basic and clinical research.
• Mentoring of young physician scientists through the following Lifeline Awards:
  
  -E.J. Wylie Memorial Traveling Fellowship -Lifeline Student Research Fellowships
  -Lifeline Resident Research Prize
  -Award for Excellence in Vascular Surgical Research for Residents

The Open the Pathway campaign is well on its way to securing the $3 million challenge goal to aid in expanding AVA’s research, education and advocacy initiatives.
