This vascular health activity book for children ages 5 through 12 teaches children about how our vascular system works and is available free of charge.

"Blood Buddies" take children on a journey through their veins and arteries to teach them how the vascular system delivers oxygen and nutrients and why healthy eating and maintaining a healthy lifestyle keep your vascular system healthy. The activites stress the importance of exercise, healthy eating and not smoking through activities such as; a maze, a word search, a penny board game, a secret code, coloring pages among other activities.

Vascular surgeons want to help teachers and parents to inform youngsters about the health risks of obesity and smoking. If children understand how their bodies work, they may be more likely to take care of their vascular health as adults.Blocked Arteries Maze

Adult vascular health complications include blocked carotid arteries that can cause paralyzing strokes. More than 15,000 people die annually from ruptured aortic aneurysms and one in every 20 Americans over the age of 50 has peripheral arterial disease. High cholesterol levels, smoking and lack of exercise are key factors in a person's likelihood of developing these diseases.
