CHICAGO (March 24, 2009) —
The Society for Vascular Surgery® today announced a library of vascular health topics presented in short video podcasts on VascularWeb.org. A section specific for the media may be viewed at http://www.vascularweb.org/Media/Vascular_Podcasts/Index.html. Written and presented by vascular surgeons, these podcasts address important vascular topics including disease descriptions, newer minimally invasive procedures, vascular screening, and the role of the vascular surgeon.
“Our membership wanted to take advantage of the latest communication venues to reach people with this valuable information. We are releasing the podcasts through iTunes and YouTube as well as posting them on VascularWeb.org,” said George Meier, MD, chair, SVS Communications Committee. “The vascular podcasts provide the public, patients, medical professionals and students, and the media with a comprehensive library of important information about vascular health and the advances we’ve made in treating vascular disease,”
Making sure people have the vascular health information they need is critical. There are expected to be considerably more vascular cases because the disease primarily affects seniors; and as the United States population rates for seniors increases with aging baby boomers, the potential for vascular disease increases. In 2005, the United States Census reported there were more than 67 million people aged 55 and older. It anticipates that number to rise to more than 87 million in 2015. With this increase in potential vascular disease cases, knowledge of all treatments will become even more critical to your senior readership and their families.
Vascular surgeons are the experts in the field of vascular disease. They are the only medical professionals today who are trained to offer all treatment options available including medical management, minimally invasive endovascular angioplasty and stent procedures, stent graft procedures, and open bypass surgery.
