2009/2010 SVS President Elected: Anton N. Sidawy, MD, MPH, Professor of Surgery, Georgetown and George Washington University Schools of Medicine
CHICAGO (July 07, 2009) —
Dr. Anton N. Sidawy was elected 2009-2010 president of the Society for Vascular Surgery® (SVS) during the Vascular Annual Meeting® on June 12, 2009. He finished his vascular surgery fellowship at Boston University Hospital and earned a Masters of Public Health in Health Care Administration from George Washington University.
Dr. Sidawy is chief of surgical service at the Veterans Affair Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and serves as professor of surgery at both Georgetown and George Washington University Schools of Medicine, in Washington, D.C. He is the director of the Vascular Surgery Residency Program at Georgetown University and the Washington Hospital Center.
“Dr. Sidawy has served on the board of directors of the SVS since its merger in 2003. Under his leadership, SVS has risen to the largest and most prestigious medical society focused on vascular health in the country,” said Dr. G. Patrick Clagett, SVS past-president. “More than ever, his expertise with health policy issues is invaluable in today’s health care climate. SVS is in a powerful position with Dr. Sidawy as the president.”
He is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Vascular Surgery. He is the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles, multiple book chapters, and two text books, The Basic Science of Vascular Disease and Diabetic Foot, Lower Extremity Arterial Disease and Limb Salvage. He also serves as associate editor of the Rutherford Textbook of Vascular Surgery. Dr. Sidawy currently serves on the Vascular Surgery Board of the American Board of Surgery.
Dr. Sidawy has a special interest in health policy issues as they relate to vascular surgery and has served for many years on the Health Policy Committee of the SVS.
