Paula Shireman, MD, The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Elected to Distinguished Fellows Status, Society for Vascular Surgery
CHICAGO (August 13, 2009) —
Dr. Shireman was elected to distinguished fellow status of the Society for Vascular Surgery® (SVS) at the 2009 Vascular Annual Meeting® in June. She is an assistant professor in the departments of medicine and surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Shireman is a faculty member at the Barshop Institute for Longevity and Aging Studies at University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas. She also is a staff physician at University Hospital and the Audie L. Murphy Veterans Affairs Hospital, both in San Antonio. Her election was based upon her scholarly research activities, creative professional activities, and broadly recognized teaching excellence.
Dr. Shireman has 35 peer-reviewed publications and is a reviewer for the Journal of Surgical Research and the Journal of Vascular Surgery®. She has served as a principal investigator or contributor on 16 basic science research studies. In 2004 Dr. Shireman received the Outstanding Alumni Award from Purdue University and the Presidential Junior Research Scholar Award from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.
In addition to her dedication to the SVS, Dr. Shireman is involved with the American College of Surgeons, American Heart Association, Association for Academic Surgery, Association for Women Surgeons, North American Vascular Biology Organization, San Antonio Vascular Surgery Society, and the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery.
