Charles J. Shanley, MD, William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Mich., Elected to Distinguished Fellows Status, Society for Vascular Surgery

CHICAGO (August 12, 2009) —

Dr. Shanley was elected to distinguished fellow status of the Society for Vascular Surgery® (SVS) at the 2009 Vascular Annual Meeting® in June. He is an attending surgeon, the senior vice president of surgical services, chair of the department of surgery, the general surgery residency program director, and the executive director of the Marcia & Eugene Applebaum Surgical Learning Center at the William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich. Dr. Shanely also is an attending surgeon at the William Beaumont Hospital locations in Grosse Pointe and Troy, Mich. He is a research professor at the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine in Rochester, Mich. Dr. Shanley’s election was based upon his scholarly research activities, creative professional activities, and broadly recognized teaching excellence.

Dr. Shanley has authored 47 peer-reviewed articles and has given more than 130 invited presentations. He has been a principal investigator or co-principle investigator on 11 studies. Dr. Shanley has received numerous academic honors, including the James W. Crudup Award for Excellence in Research from the department of surgery at the University of Michigan and the Galens Medical Society Award for Excellence in Teaching from the University of Michigan.

In addition to his dedication to the SVS, Dr. Shanley is involved with the American College of Surgeons, Association of Program Directors in Surgery, Association of Surgical Education, Detroit Surgical Society, Michigan Vascular Society, Midwest Surgical Association, Midwest Vascular Surgical Society, and the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery.
